It’s an easy way to change up a tea traditionally prepared with water. Adding milk opens up options for more ingredients and preparation methods, such as spices and sugar-free options. Thus allowing you to enjoy both the taste and health benefits of rooibos in a way that hopefully suits your tastebuds.

(1) Easy Rooibos with Just Milk and Sugar: Kettle Method
Ingredients:
- 1 teabag of pure rooibos tea
- 2 teaspoons of sugar
- 1 cup of water
- 1/4 cup of milk (or less, as desired)
Method:
- Boil water in a kettle.
- Add the boiling water and rooibos teabag to a cup.
- Cover and leave to steep for 7 minutes.
- Remove the teabag.
- Add the milk and sugar.
- Stir well.
(2) Classic Rooibos with Milk and Sugar: Simmered on the Stove, for a Stronger Brew
Ingredients:
- 1 teabag of pure rooibos tea
- 2 teaspoons of sugar
- 1.5 cups of water
- 1/4 cup of milk (or less, as desired)
Method:
- Add the water and rooibos teabag to a saucepan.
- Bring to a boil and simmer for about 7 minutes.
- Remove the teabag.
- Pour into a cup.
- Add the milk and sugar.
- Stir well.
(3) Rooibos Tea with Milk and Raw Honey: A Healthier Choice
Looking to drop the sugar and go for a healthier alternative? This recipe is just as easy as the kettle method. We simply replace the sugar with a dollop of pure raw honey.
Ingredients:
- 1 teabag of pure rooibos tea
- 2 teaspoons of raw honey
- 1 cup of water
- 1/4 cup of milk (or less, as desired)
Method:
- Boil water in a kettle.
- Add the boiling water and rooibos teabag to a cup.
- Cover and leave to steep for 3-4 minutes.
- Remove the teabag.
- Add the milk and raw honey.
- Stir well.
(4) Rooibos Chai Milk Tea: Rich and Lightly Spiced
Chai tea, also called masala tea, includes aromatic Indians herbs and spices to the brew. With milk, it brings out a wonderful touch of gentleness from the rooibos that contrasts with rich spices to give a somewhat earthy rooibos chai.
Ingredients:
- 1 teabag of pure rooibos tea
- 1.25 cups of water
- 1/4 cup of milk
- 2 teaspoons of raw honey
- 4 cm piece of cinnamon stick
- 1 whole clove, lightly crushed
- 1 pinch whole fennel seeds
- 1 cardamom pod, lightly crushed
- 1/2 tsp grated fresh ginger or 1 pinch dried ginger powder
Method:
- Add the water and spices to a saucepan.
- Bring to a boil, and leave to boil for 2 minutes.
- Add the rooibos teabag.
- Continue to boil for another 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat.
- Cover and leave to steep for 3-4 minutes.
- Remove the teabag.
- Strain out the spices, whilst pouring into a large mug.
- Add the honey and milk.
- Stir well.
(5) Rooibos Tea with Almond Milk
Ingredients:
- 1 teabag of pure rooibos tea
- 3/4 cup of water
- 1/4 cup of almond milk
- 4 cm piece of cinnamon stick
- 2 teaspoons of raw honey
Method:
- Add the water, almond milk, cinnamon stick, and rooibos teabag to a saucepan.
- Bring to a boil, and leave to simmer for three minutes. Stir often to avoid scorching.
- Remove from heat.
- Cover and leave to steep for 3-4 minutes.
- Remove the teabag and cinnamon stick.
- Add the honey.
- Stir well.
(6) Simple Iced Rooibos with Milk
Ingredients:
- 2 teabags of pure rooibos tea
- 2 teaspoons of raw honey
- 125 ml of water
- 100 ml of milk
- Pinch of cinnamon powder
- Ice
Method:
- Boil the water.
- Add the boiled water, rooibos tea bags, honey and cinnamon to a pan.
- Mix well.
- Cover and leave to steep for 15 minutes.
- Remove the teabags.
- Store in the fridge for at least two hours.
- When ready to serve, add the milk and ice.
